We have a 5. Around the holidays with everyone in the kitchen I wish we had 6 though.

This is the one we have at the house (come with the house when we bought it).

I didn't know what I was missing until I started cooking on it. And the griddle makes all the difference in the world.

Not sure if I want to convince her towards a griddle or grill.

One other question, we plan to put the stove top in the island. I have seen lots of pictures of these in an island and it seems half have a vent and half dont. Do some of them have the vent built in with the motor below it that filters it and blows it back out?

You want the griddle. Trust me.

I believe so, but I want to say the models with a grill have that vent feature.

Had an old Wolf stove years ago. I will get another. Look around on C-list, you can find some pretty good deals. They last a long time.

Thermador makes a nice stove top.

I am no help on the commercial cooktop but I know I can't stand the filter vents. They do not work nearly as well as a true vent that gets the smell up and out of the house.

It's your kitchen, but I wouldn't put my stove top in an island. Island counter space is very useful. I would put the stove top in the regular counter and put in a pot filler faucet above the stove top.

Heres the plans. Hillis Residence-P7A.pdf We went and looked at a house that was just recently done. Asked why they put the stovetop in the island for the same reason. Here is their explaining, and i think it was a very good point.

Where do people usually congregate when you have friends over? In the kitchen/dining area. The wife is usually cooking if we aren't outside grilling, so she wanted to stovetop in the island so that she didn't have her back to everyone while they were conversing.

After they said that it made total since to me to put it in the island for the wife so that she could talk to her friends while cooking. Cleaning isn't going to happen until most people, if not all, have left. So the sink was in a corner and didn't matter.

We are probably still going to make the island a little bigger also.

In the houses I build I put in the six burner Thermadors.

I would not put it in the island. I understand that your wife wants to talk with everyone while cooking but people do not want to sit around and near a hot stovetop. I'm afraid what you'll end up with is your wife there alone and the island not being used as a gathering area because its hot, loud with a vent, and greasy. Put the sink in the island so that the women can talk while they do the dishes!

This^^^^^and go with the flat top. The grill you have in the back yard and they are a mess in the house.,

I have a 6 burner Wolf with a griddle. I don't usually use the griddle for cooking but it is great for keeping a pot or pan warm while finishing other things up. I have, on occasion , had all 6 burners going and things on the griddle. About to build a new house and I will be purchasing a new Wolf.

We wont be building until May so I guess we will need to talk to the people that just built and see how it has worked out for them. At that point they will have been in the house for a little over a year.
