Snake ID?

My mother in law killed this today. Was about 18" or so long. She beat it to death so lousy pics. They saw a longer one the other day in the house. What type of snake is it if you can tell.

Western rat snake.

A lot of folks call them rat or chicken snakes i believe

"Beat it to death", I can understand, but why did she tie it in knots?

All I can say is don't mess with her. They just put it in the paper towel so I could see it.

Rat snake, they are aggressive but harmless

Aggressive and in the house, may as well be a cobra. Hope the other one left or we get it soon. It's been 2 weeks, think there would be a trace.
