Funny you mention CDC. He's young but considering we will be funding a new basketball arena and closing the south end zone, I think he would be a great hire.

So far he's not a name I've heard mentioned but he's a stud IMO

Maybe. But........Does that change the expectations? What I mean is I see that reported a lot, but between Mack and Charlie I think it's pretty clear what the expectations are for the HFC at UT both long and short term. That won't change no matter who the AD is.

Don't know. Logic would suggest a guy like Luck would have more control than Perin but I don't think anyone would have the right to hire or terminate without Fenves approval.

No doubt but you need to have a good relationship to make meeting those goals easier IMO.

That's 100% true. Perfect world we would have long term AD in place first but in terms of meeting long term goals as it relates to Charlie........
            1. He has highest paid staff in B12
            2. He's replaced 8 of 9 assistants

I suppose if he and Perin were best buds his work might be more enjoyable and possibly a better performance but the University could not have possibly supported him more over last 3 years.

I understand your questions and support your points. Just saying everything UT has done to mitigate any potential problem areas separates us from USC by miles.

The irony as it relates to Perin is as much as I'd prefer a long term AD, he was bought in to stabilize the mess Patterson created. Yet, media suggests that since he's short term it's unstable. I get the point but as it relates to BMDs, Fenves, McRaven and their relationship with the AD it's never been more stable.

Sounds like it. I was curious what some of you guys thought. I'm not close to either situation, it just kinda appeared like it on the surface.

As far as Chuck goes, the assistants thing has been baffling. You think it's due to him deflecting heat or trying to adjust to the Big 12 style, etc? It's bizarre.

NO DOUBT the media will continue to paint a picture of dysfunction. Goes with the territory and honestly it may be more messed up than I believe. I'm just giving you my $.02 from what I hear.

I think the two go hand in hand. Charlie's loyalty caused him to make bad initial hires despite an open check book. His inability to understand B12 offenses has caused additional problems on defense. To make the team better and to save face he had to fire people.

Two biggest issues for me personally are game management decisions and constantly playing a zone D with DBs 10 yards deep. The first shows he's just not that sharp. The second shows he has no clue how spread offenses attack you or just plain stubbornness. Guy knows more football than I ever will but when it's not working, why keep doing it?

I love the guy but I flat don't get it. Devante Davis, Holton Hill and Malik were all picked pre-season to be among the best in conference at their positions. 2 have lost their job and Malik is now splitting time. We are going backwards.

Whomever ends up being the next coach is sure going to inherit a nice core of talent to work with!

Wouldn't you think Gilbert could/would have exposed this in practice with the new offense? I see it one of three ways; 1) the new offense isn't as good as we think and the Texas D actually stops the O in practice, 2) the D in practice plays completely different than the D on game day (they play scared in games) or, 3) the D stinks in both practice and games and the coaches have no idea how to make them better.

I don't like any of those scenarios since they all result in a loss on Saturdays.

Texas should be undefeated right now. If they had any kind of defense their record would reflect. Buchele has an incredible arm and D'onte Foreman is one of the best backs in the country and nobody realizes it. Highly disappointed in how Texas has played this year.
