Sometimes the truth hurts but at the same time it benefits someone to hear it. Better than inciting anger and unjustified vengeance like some on this thread. This situation is very unfortunate, but these situations can also be learned from

Kinda like the consequences of not confining a dog and letting them run country roads...

When the op admits full and well he knows he made a mistake, and accepts responsibility for that mistake; there is absolutely NO need to keep piling on him about it. Those that choose to do so, are to put it simply; *******S.

Since he wouldn't stop when I was trying to wave him down, I contacted the sheriff's office. When they contacted him, his words were "well it didn't hurt my car any, and while you have him on the phone, tell him to keep his dogs off my property chasing rabbits." There isn't a person in this county that has anything positive to say about this man as he has made a reputation for himself to everyone he has come across, as I found out yesterday. He's never come to me and told me about my dogs doing anything on his property, the only place I've ever seem them go is down the road to a neighbors house to play with their German Shepards which I know those people, super nice and keep our dogs all the time when we're away on vacation. He obviously had beef against me and them, and to me it was his opportunity to get at them.

Again guys, I know from the beginning that it was my fault. What I thought was the right thing to do by not penning my dogs up when they love to explore and visit the neighbors, turned out to be my worse nightmare, even though I do feel that he did not have to make the conscious decision to just hit her when there were so many other options that could have ended without physically hurting any of my dogs

While I agree with what you are saying, I also believe that just because you can tell your opinion to a social media post, doesn't mean you have to, should, need to, or grant you a pass to say anything you like. That is what the back button is for. I'm not trying to single you out, just giving my opinion to a sad situation on this thread where a man is hurting for his dog and others seen to think it would be a good time to give him a kick in the pants.

Best of luck to the dog. Sorry about having a neighbor and others that don't understand the bond.

If done intentionally the driver is a real piece of crap. Your calm and humbling attitude shows what kind of good person you are. Again, please take a look at this http://www.petsafe.net/landing/wirel...FQcDaQodJ8IKyA

It works great. I have used it for several years

I appreciate the information. A couple weeks ago I had already started to gather materials for a fence for them behind our house, we live on a little over an acre so I have some room to make them a nice size running area. This will just be more motivation to get the rest of the stuff I need and get it built

So it's illegal to shoot a stay dog, but it's OK to purposely run it down?
That don't jive with me. I'd talk to the sheriff's office, and a lawyer and finally the neighbor. You witnessed the assault, when you tried to ask him what happened, he went into a ditch to avoid speaking with you.
I'm not saying you should, but I've chased down people that swerved towards one of my sp dogs that got lose. And in no uncertain terms, made them see their error.

No way to prove it was purposely run down. Dog was in the road, and not on the owners property, so it wouldn't hold up if he took it to court. Got to keep them on your property if you don't want these kinds of things to happen. And if there's any inkling of a dog damaging private property, you can shoot it whether it's stray or not here in Texas.

I had a neighbor that kept poultry and lot's of the neighbors didn't keep there dogs penned, and they had the sheriff out when there dogs got eliminated when they ended up on the poultry guys property with a bird in there mouth. The poultry guy had every right to protect his livestock, even if he was shooting a high pedigree dog with a collar.

Prayers for your pup, hope she makes a full recovery.
