    Need some input ....

Arrows a doe That endded up in the water..... I could not see it and did not want to approach the area without giving it some time... waited over an hour but cannot find the doe... had a huge blood trail to the water but the shot was back and high as it grazed a limb. Will a deer float or sinks?? Any advice is greatly appreciated!!

Sorry about the spelling my thumbs are not doing well on the phone keypad

do not know bout that, I know when used to shoot snakes it would take then a couple days before they would float up if that helps.

I would think it should float having the lung size they do, what kind of body of water was it and how wide?

I am at lake amistad... the cove the doe went into is not
To wide but had like 4-5 finger draws ... I have looksd for a couple of hours and can find any trails coming out of the water... just not sure if it would leave a trail if it made it out in one of the finger draws...

A body will sink when it drowns. Fermenting gases will eventually cause it to float.

I know when animals are losing a lot of blood they head to water, I bet your shot was better then you think and if the water was wide it might had went in and came out further down unless it died in the water, how far was the trail before water, and if it died I would look downstream and scan fromthe bank out to about 2 ft of water or so.... it should had drifted until it hit bottom..... if the body of water was on the narrower side it might have crossed.... that's all I got. I have lost a nice buck that way also

Unfortunately amistad is up about seven feet so lots of brush in the water... it's defenitly not at the edge as I have walked it out in both directions a long ways and multiple times... going to walk a circle a bit off the water to see if I can't find blood...

Well this officially sucks... first sit at an old place get a broadside shot on a doe ... doe Goes in the water and I am not able to find it... flash light is out and headlamp is getting dim... grass is waste high and I have walked into hundreds of spider webs...

Man I hate to read this, it's hard enough to get a kill out there to begin with. I think it's time to come back with some catfishing pole, probably gonna be a good spot for a few days.

One of my Aoudad's I killed out there flopped over into the water, thought he was gone but his horn hooked a rock and I was able to reach in and drag him out. That water is so clear if you had access to a boat and shine the light down you might be able to see it. I don't dig those spider webs you mentioned so I'm waiting til November but now you got me excited.

We had to go into ponds. Both floated right after death.

Sorry to hear that, like said above when deer are hit they head to water and you probably hit her better than you thought. Someone else said if you had access to a boat and shine the light in the water, if she's in there the water is clear I'm sure you could find her that way. There's been several times I've been zipping across the lake out there and thought this object was a log but as I got closer it was a deer swimming across the lake 500-600 yards to an island. I hope she is in the small main cove, good luck I hope you find her!
