I think they made the switch.

Gassed up the truck this morning and I got my 3mpg back! I think they have made the switch to the "winter formula". Now before y'all start in on the "You changed your driving habits" and stuff like that, I have changed nothing. I drive the same speeds as close as possible, drive the same roads every day, been running the a/c in this 90deg weather, etc.. When I get home from work, we use my wifes car to go places. The truck is back and forth to work only. I hand calculate using gallons used and mileage with my GPS. I jumped from 15mpg to 18mpg. It happens every year. Next year when the "summer formula" get put in, my mileage will drop back down.

Man my fuel mileage has dropped the past month or so, but its diesel. I chalked it up to changing to winter fuel. I have also been driving faster lately though too...

Been using Kroger for several years. The same thing would happen back when I used Chevron too. I'm not sure how the newer cars are affected, but the older ones can tell the difference.

Did you quit running AC since it has cooled?

I would not think an AC would make 3mpg difference though

This morning is the first cool weather in what 2-3 weeks. This morning was the first I have not run the a/c in at least 2 weeks.

They put a couple dozen runny eggs in the storage tank.

Impossible! But it ain't winter yet. How can ya be put-n winter fuel in when it ain't winter yet? I bet it's the air. That's it! Getting a tailwind will lower your gas mileage. You've been getting a tailwind, to and from work everyday!

I have wondered how many actual different "blends/types/brands" of gas there really are. Surely, more than a few companies use the same refinery.

the change and not using my A/C as much helps

I bet they are all different, but in very small amounts. Kind of like blue bell has a ton of flavors, but each of them (Besides chocolate) has a base of vanilla.

Just like not one brand of motor oil is the same. Mobil 1 formula rarely switches, where a castrol will change as commodity prices change, often once a month.

My hearing isn't worth a crap anymore. I can't drive with the windows down because of wind noise. I probably use my a/c more than most folks.

Also, when you run your defrost in the winter, your a/c compressor is also running.

This old GOF has a truck a lot older than that. Heater defrost works just fine.
Plus, I haven't had A/C in it it since 2006 or 2007. Sure wish I did some times. But I'd have to change out the whole system to get something that works half way decent. I did start by taking out the screwed up condenser in the front so the radiator could get better air flow 3 weeks ago, when changing out the water pump and having the radiator rebuilt for a second time. That old R12 compressor that's been froze up for so long is coming off pretty soon.

I know what you mean. I had a '74 Chevy that I pulled all the a/c stuff off of for horse power reasons. Defrost will still work, but if the a/c is in and working, the compressor runs with the defroster.
