So I finally got my boat stuck stuck, and a review of Progressive tow coverage

Stuck stuck...as in I'm not pushing this thing out.

3am after flounder gigging we're heading back to fish camp and I reached down to hit the jack plate up and didn't feel much different. By the time I realized the jack plate was not working it was too late, started dragging that skeg then came off plane and parked the Boatright over solid sand not floating at-all, just sitting solid on the bottom. Called Progressive and gave my coordinates, dude said hang tight he's calling around to find a tow. About 10 minutes later got a call back saying help is on the way. Couldn't believe how easily that boat pulled us out, we didn't even have to get out of the boat. All things considered it was a pretty painless experience, just had to make the one phone call and they paid the tow boat directly so I didn't have to mess with reimbursement. Progressive called me about every 15 minutes until the tow boat arrived. $30/yr add on to existing coverage for the towing.

I was wondering about that. I have the same thing. Did the tow boat have any trouble getting in shallow? Or were you close enough to a channel?

I halfway expected an airboat but he was in some sort of flats boat, but being dark and pretty far away from me I really couldn't tell what kind. He actually ran aground while approaching then jumped out and walked about 200 yards worth of rope out to me along with a clipboard for a signature. I signed and he walked back and hit the throttle and off we went. Dragged me a few hundred yards then stopped and began pulling in the rope, about half way he yelled and asked that I untie from my bow... I guess he got tired of hand dragging my boat in. LOL

I haven't bottomed out on hard sand yet, but was, with poco in his old Hayne HO and we pretty much ran that puppy up so shallow on the V we were leaning over. Turns out we were in about 4" of water. That thing wouldn't budge. Luckily we were close enough to the channel that a bay boat was, able to pull us out. Not our brightest moment.

Wife and i went out the other night. Didn't realize that I forgot my GPS till we launched the boat. Luckily the moon was bright enought that i could see and the tide was really high. So I wasn't really to concerned. But did wonder if a tow boat company could reach me up skinny.

I added this tow package to my insurance package when I got the boat. I know folks that didn't have it and were stuck in Baffin and had to fork out a couple grand to get hauled back in.

Lol love me a good shallow sport runner. I hit reefs and sand bars so light and easy to push off. This was the first boat I ran 18 ft double power poles. Still run that boat too.

Sounds like great "peace of mind" for a real cheap amount. I would think you would been on the hook for lots of green had you had to find a tow yourself.

Never been in sand of shore but I can say river sand almost seems to suck you in. Like it creates a vaccum that becomes an additional barrier in trying to get a boat out. Got one of our jet boat stuck at work after a gust of wind pushed us off the channel and onto a shallow mud bar... Luckily it was the light jet boat and we got it out with out to many problems. The new jet boats weight over 4500 lbs. and would probably not be pushed out manually...

How was the fishing?? Any picks??

I am an Independent Agent and sell for Progressive and have had very similar experiences with my freshwater bass fishing customers. Good to hear how quick they responded to you. I always tell my customers they should get this coverage because if you use it one time in 10 years it's worth it.

Good to hear you got out with minimal headache. I had to get towed last summer while out flounder gigging. My insurance company works by reimbursement and I don't care for that. Although they did get me a check pretty darn quick.

Thanks for sharing, glad you got out easy. Sounds a lot better that the other tow company.

Thanks for sharing your experience and glad you had the two insurance.

I have 3 Nephew Brothers out on Lake Sam Rayburn a few years back night fishing. Since the Bass weren't cooperating, they decided to call it a night about 1:00 AM. The older Nephew and boat owner (a Skeeter Starfire with a 150 HP) was blasting along the Dam riprap at full throttle without a light (actually this is my Wife's Nephews, not mine) when he beached his Skeeter onto a red clay point. His boat was completely out of the water, so they decided to push her back into the lake. NOT!!! The red clay held fast on the hull and they began to push from side to side, inching the boat back to the water. About daylight they got the boat into the lake and they were exhausted and covered with red clay...So was the Skeeter. I bet he wished to have this Tow insurance back then.

I clicked on just for the pics dang it. Glad it worked out for you so well. A friend of mine did that with his family down in Port Mansfield. The guy from town came and got him unstuck but didnt rape him on the charge. I think it was about $300.

I'm hoping geico is comparable. Not wanting to find out but if I do I'll post up my experience with them.
