    Feeding Without a Feeder

I've got an area that I've just been throwing out hand corn for a few weeks, that has managed to bring in some very nice bucks. I don't really want to start another spin feeder, but would like to keep more feed available to these bucks when they want it, rather then eating all of my hand corn in 2 or 3 days. I've thought about building a small trough type feeder and using this. I've never had much luck with pipe feeders.

What would y'all use for this type of situation?

I used a DIY bucket feeder for a season or so just to help keep deer near the house for my daughter to watch.

Pipe feeder. Not sure why you're not having luck? I also prefer to use a 6.5 gallon bucket fish feeder. The fish feeder just dumps the corn and does not spin it making lots of noise. I have them about 20' or more in the air hanging from a limb. The feeder is out of sight so i tend to see more bucks come and feed under it. The bigger bucks usually avoid my regular spin feeders.

My buddy uses a covered wooden trough that the deer dont seem to mind. In the spring he puts protein in it instead of corn also.

I've thought of this type of feeder, but didn't know what was available. I know I saw a couple of years ago one company came out with a "silent feeder" that used a wheel type assembly to feed but never saw much of it after that.

honestly I think if you put a feeder there (of any type) your new bucks are going to vanish. They are on your hand corn because they do not like feeders (they are smart). Refresh your hand corn every 3-4 days with 25lbs-50lbs of corn and they will keep coming back for several days. I know it is inconvenient, but killing a big mature buck can take some inconvenience in a lot of cases to get it done. I am doing the same exact things this season.

Get you a 5gallon bucket feeder, attach an on time funnel and on time timer? Glue you some carpet or something soft the the spinner plate and which thatbthing way up into the canopies. It's crazy silent and deer won't know it's there. It works wonders and will last approx 2 weeks

This is what I've been thinking too... if it was closer it wouldn't be an issue to keep that hand corn there though.

I agree with Codie. im in east texas,, and have never had anything other than doe come to feeder. before I had feeder, I dumped out corn or sweet feed and had a few bucks show up. I just moved a stand yesterday and put out a 50# of corn with camera on it. I live about 2.5mi from where I hunt so I can check it a couple times a week, but will probably just check it on the weekend unless they really start hitting it hard.
