    Oil Filed Blues

Well my day finally came working in the oilfield I got laid off today. Been working for the same company 3 years off shore (I'm 24) as a ROV pilot/technician. I live in Houston and am now looking at pointers on how to get started in the plants. All oil field experience from a welders helper on the pipeline to survey jobs laying pipeline to ROV pilot/technician working with hydraulics, electrical and electronics. I wont keep ranting on but if anyone has any pointers on what I should do please let me know!

    Sorry to hear about.

File for unemployment and go hunt. No seriousness, think of something you really want to do and go that route, follow your conscience

Been working in power plant for 9 years. Making 6 figures in just a few short years has been great, provided myself and young family with a great living. But, for some like myself higher income meant higher lifestyle. Land/house/toys. Now We dont want to adjust our lifestyle but am really getting tired of the shift work. Didnt bother me for a while, until now when I have had to miss my boys Saturday game. Missing holidays, and family events really is getting to me. If you working in a plant means doing shift work, I would run, unless you are a single guy and plan to stay that way!! If I did it all again I would have finished college or went to tech school and got a day job. Just my two cents, good luck

I have no experience with it but I feel if I can figure out how to work on a ROV I can more than likely figure it out.

That's the right attitude for sure. As a previous post said, figure out what you love to do, and find a way to make money doing it. Sorry, I can't help more, but I fell @$$ backwards into a job I love. Hope you have the same luck!

Ya for CI. I was on the DS4 for a year then the West Vela for the past two. We crewed down on the West Vela 4 weeks ago I've been home six weeks and they just gave me the call this morning to lay me off.

Most folks choose the wrong profession based off the amount of money they can make, and they eventualy get frustrated/stressed and p!ss3d off at the world...
You really should select a profession/passion that you will enjoy doing and you will become sucessfull in the long run. It's not how much money you make, it's how you spend it.

Sorry to hear that. We were just out there. I am an OM on the Grant Candies.

Call Team Trident and see if you can find some contract work while you are looking for a permanent roost. Bad thing is Tidewater laid off their whole division this month, lots of people looking

I may due that instead of collecting unemployment.

Believe me If you could get a weeks worth of work out of them a month, you would make more than unemployment. Then you could use the rest of the time to search.

We have 4-5 Team Trident guys on here all the time supplementing the full time crew. They are on a rotation too. We aren't hiring any fulltime people until it rebounds
