Drawn for Matador Mule Deer... info please

Me and a buddy were drawn for gun mule deer hunt at Matador WMA, after applying for years! Would appreciate any hunt information, do's or don'ts.
Also any info on places in Paducah to stay, or not to stay? Places to eat or NOT eat? Thanks in advance.

Stay in Childress, eat in Childress (lots of places) short drive. There is a small cafe in Paducah that is great but more options in Childress. Book your room early as the hotels fill up and hunters and truckers.

Chrildress has a wal-mart and other stores and several hotels.

As far as hunting goes I have hunted whitetails there and it is tough hunting but there are good bucks in there. Wear comfortable walking boots. The western portion of the WMA holds the most Mule Deer. Setup on a point over looking a draw or drainage leading to the river. There are hogs, coyotes, bobcats, badgers and wild cattle. The wind can blow and it can be cold in the AM and hot by noon.

Carry a flashlight so when you are hiking out several miles in the dark the badger you walk up on will not make you poo your pants as bad.

Dress in layers be prepared to walk a lot and glass a lot.

If You are with a buddy, you might take a radio with an ear bud so you can stay in touch!

A Good pair of Bino's is a must!

Take a game Cart! In years past, they wanted you to bring out your deer only field dressed and not Quartered! Some of those canyons are kind of a long ways from the nearest ranch road!

South and West sides of the refuge are where the Muleys hang out. Parts of the south fence and the west fence roads are really sandy so a good 4x4 is highly recommended. Might try to use a high pitched predator call and blow it like crazy when you are in a spot that you can see quiet a distance. You should call in plenty of does and hyoung bucks, but you might just get a big buck to stand and look. I called in several decent bucks over a 2 day period and had does literally run me over charging into the call. they think it is like a fawn in distress or something of that nature. Decent pair of binos is recommended as there are places you can get high enough to glass.

            4X4
            COLD weather clothes
            Comfortable Boots
Game Cart for getting an animal out of the bottom of a canyon
During the middle of the day you can sneak along the shaded side of the canyon and kick rocks over the edge and spook bedded deer up
You will need binoculars the entire hunt

Don't stay in Paducah. The campgrounds are OK. I stayed there in 2013 on the archery mule deer hunt.

If you go in the western units (where the mule deer are) drive a 4 wheel drive. I rented one and I'm glad I did.

I'll second the game cart and good pair of binos.
