    Bug Off! Spray

There used to be this bug repellant for hunters called Bug Off! This was about the time Thermacells started becoming popular. It worked great! I'd pay $10 a can to get it now. It came in "odorless" or "fall scented." The hogs never noticed it.

    Has anyone seen it anywhere?

(btw - my son and I have found that the Thermacells spook the hogs and last weekend his spooked the deer. I can't find my Thermacell, so it is not a factor.)

Scent Shield used to make "no stinkin' bugs" spray. I used to get it at Academy and used it for years. I think it has been discontinued because I haven't been able to find any for a while.

Scent Shield is still making a bug spray called "Bug Blocker".

Is that the same stuff, Mudslinger?

While it says its a sportsmans spray, it does not say that it is for hunters/ hunting or is scent free.

I still have a can in my hunting backpack. I use it sparingly . Now that I know they don't make it anymore I will use it even more sparingly .

I would sure like to know how you determined the Thermacell spooked the hogs and deer and not your smell that spooked them.

Not sure, going to do a little more research on it.

I never heard of anyone say the Thermacell spooked deer or hogs. From my own experience, I would lean toward human scent being the problem.
There are insect repellents that have an odor that doesn't spook game, but that can be also used as a cover scent.
I used a citrus smell spray that would ward off skeeters and it never seemed to spook game.
I think using the Thermacell and a cover scent might be an option to try, as well as setting up for the wind which should help.

Day to day testing over a period of several weeks of tree stand, ground blind, and spot and stalk. Every time, the hogs approached from the down wind and blew out when they got within 10-15 yards when using a Thermacell but completely ignoring me without a Thermacell. Several people I know say the same thing.

Several times I used an earth scent Thermacell wafer and it pulled in hogs like a magnet, then they wised up and started moving away from it. I even had one hog try to flip my popup to get into it with me.

Plus, I don't like carrying it. I have lots of other things I carry and there never seems to be a good place to put it, especially when I'm stalking.

So your telling me you can fool a hogs nose so it can't smell you. We are going to have to agree to disagree on this.

If you can't find your unscented spray, you may try a more bio based insect repellent.

There are a bunch of cedar oil based insect repellent, and they work pretty good. If you're allergic to cedar, I don't know whether it will upset your allergies or not.

Mrs likes to use non chemical solutions, so I've been using them for years.

Also look at soybean oil, greek catnip oil, thyme oil, cinnamon oil, lavender and lemon eucalyptus oil based insect spray.
