    Wanton Waste??

Just curious, has anyone ever seen anything like this as applied for deer? The quote below is from the migratory game section of the TPWD rules.

    Wanton Waste
A reasonable effort must be made to retrieve any killed or wounded birds and any wounded bird retrieved must be immediately killed and made a part of the bag limit. After retention, the birds must be kept in an edible condition.

Looks like this would be a good argument to be able to use a dog for blood trailing a deer in counties where it is not allowed. I'll have to follow up on this, as I hunt in Angelina county, and we aren't supposed to used dogs for bloodtrailing there - if I read things right. Anyway, just a thought. . .

No, as this would apply to limits and overharvest.

I think it applies to more then just limits and overharverst. My understanding is it applies to all game animals, meaning you have to make a reasonable effort to retrieve the game and keep the meat in an edible condition. In other words don't let it go to waste.

I don't believe the state can tell you where you can or cannot walk your dog

Dad lost a deer today in Nac county. Probably could have found him with a dog

For deer I believe this applies more to the use of the deer after harvest and retrieval. For example if you kill a deer and just cut out the backstraps and tenderloins... or even worse, saw the antlers and throw the rest away.
