Around Huntsville the acorns are falling and the deer are not hitting the feeders on a regular basis like they were.

It happens every year around here about this time. Acorns, human pressure, hormonal changes, winter coats. Probably Obama's fault.
I really don't get serious about it until the last week of this month when the bucks will be out searching.

I have too many acorn feeders on my place, 1000s of em, and I can't figure out which one to hunt!

I have been following Garguys thread on pressured deer are easy to pattern since he started it. Last year I witnessed most of what he talks about in full circle. This year I have been watching 32 deer every day from March till about the 1st week of September. Slowly all the mature bucks have left for walkabout. I know if they don't get shot they will be back the middle of December. Where did the deer go? The mature bucks are running scrapes and rub lines not corn feeders and corn piles. These areas are going to be near open pastures, clear cuts, oil field locations places the bucks can pull up with their backs to a thicket or fence row and see a lot of area to chase does. The young bucks are chasing the does around like crazy in Liberty county right now. Since the day before opening weekend one of the other things that has change is the wind direction. As soon as the wind started this east / north east flow the deer I had at the house moved 600 yards across the neighbors pasture. I watched them do this last year as a front hit, what garguy called the corner effect. When the wind get favorable for me which is west they will be right back. It's hard to be able to pick up and chase the deer around when you hunt on a hunting lease or club because members pretty much get a spot or area to hunt, that's why people who own property or hunt public land usually have greater success on mature deer. So many people also can't wait for opening day and will go ruin their only spot for the year by blowing the deer out the first day on the wrong wind.
