To cull or not to cull?

Hey y'all. I've got a pretty mature deer on my lease that doesn't appear to be getting any bigger, but I'd hate to take out a decent buck if it's not time. Let me know what y'all think. (Side note: I've yet to shoot a deer with my bow, so I'm excited about the possibility of taking him. Just didn't want to take him if he's got some potential). The daytime pics are of him last season, and the night pics are from a few weeks ago.

Depends. I would give him a couple years.

The first part of your second sentence should give you the answer.

What reservations do you have? He's a pretty decent buck for our lease, but definitely not the best. I'd love to shoot a bigger one, but he's the most consistent at this feeder. Definitely considering waiting until the rut hits to see what else comes around.

He is mature enough to take an arrow and become your "first buck with a bow" memory in my opinion. I would also like to add that I would not consider him a "cull" buck. If you had many more mature bucks with much larger antlers and he was the "runt" of the mature deer then ok, but I would consider him a trophy

I think you should ask yourself what you mgmt goals are in the future. Where do you see your deer herd in 5 years. Does killing that buck move your closer to your goals or does it slow it down. what is the estimate age of the buck bases your trail cam pics?

It depends on wether or not he is a good representation of your deer in that age class and it depends if you like big 8's. He looks 3.5 to me. He could be huge at 7.5.

We've got a few good 10's floating around between the neighbors and our place. I love big 8's, but was just curious if people thought he'd keep growing.

"Excited to take him" don't make us talk you in or out of it. Arra that deer!

Shoot him if you want, you won't be hurting the herd by taking him out. He's mature enough
