If you are new to trad bows I would go low draw weight and cheap and I would start with a recurve. If you are set on a longbow the low end ones are in the $250 range. The higher end bows "usually" shoot better and pretty much always look better but that is a personal thing and something you are likely to change your mind about anyway.

Try and find yourself a used Sorrels longbow. Your still going to spend some money though you should contact Bob Sorrels and go visit him. He will have some bows you can test drive in different weights. Have you ever shot traditional bows?

Samick makes good bows that don't cost a whole lot. You can check them out at 3 Rivers Archery or Lancaster Archery. Mike McCready at Maddog Archery builds custom long bows that don't cost an arm and a leg as well. I've got 2 of his bows and they're great. You can just google search "Maddog Traditional Archery" and his site will pop up.

I shot one years ago and liked the idea of instinct shooting, wanting to try something new don't really like the look of recurves, I dint mind buying quality cause I can always sell it, if its a name that folks are willing to buy, thanx for the input ive seen the name sorrels quite a bit so I may look for a used one, any thing I should look for in a used bow

I would not even consider a longbow unless it was a reflex design. Trust me you will love them, I've shot allot of longbows and by far they shoot the best. Everyone is different when finger shooting but I like three fingers under the arrow. Good luck.

This would be a WONDERFUL bow for a beginner in trad and would be a bow you could use to kill nearly anything in America

Get on the "Traditional" section and you'll find a wealth of info from some very experienced shooters.
By the way, I've got a Sarrels Longbow, Bob makes an amazing bow.

Yessir I agree, and I don't think you'll find one brand new anywhere for 275$

I will keep the recurve in mind and will consider all my options, what about arrows strings or anything else I would need or could I shoot the arrows from my compound bow ?

You'll probably need new arrows, because you will want to use feathers instead of vanes. When you find a bow you'll need to get the proper spined arrows based on your poundage, draw length, etc. You may lose an inch of draw length switching to a trad bow to a compound as well. Depending on the bow, you may or may not get a good string. The good news is custom longbow strings are cheap. You can get a new string from Hunter's Choice Bowstrings for less than $30. And make sure to get a bowstringer, don't try to string your bow without it. And just so you know, this is the most addictive hobby you can have, and it will make you want to pull your hair out some days lol. Feel free to ask away on the trad forum, all those guys are super helpful and they are way more knowledgeable than me. They've been great helping me get started.
