    Age & Score.

Pics from the 25th and the 25th only, but it is a start. Really, really green and way too much for them to eat until we get a good hard freeze. We may be hurt by the drought and not have a couple years of not having those age group bucks. It has been wet the last 2 years, but dry the previous 3 or 4 years prior to the last 2. What does the GS think?
I know what I think, but need to see him in person and get your opinion.

Yes it is. SE corner of Kent County between Jayton and Rotan just south of one fork of the Brazos River. Stonewall County line is about 200 yards east of this location if that far!

I remember that red dirt. I shot my first BIG buck, back in 87(college days) ,just north of Rotan. Fisher county.. He was real old. Scored in the low 40's.

I love that country out there.......

He may not be as old as you think. He could easily be a very healthy 3.5. The last pic has him all bowed up and it makes him look older than he really is. Look how is neck comes into his chest above is brisket clear indication that he is less than 4.5. We will be seeing a lot of VERY healthy 3.5 yo deer with all of the rain we have had the last 2 years. On a lot of leases the fact that he is only about 15 to 16 inches across and an 8 pt would make him a cull buck.

True, but on our place, he is not a cull. 1 buck county and not known for monster deer. Not sure if he will get shot, just have to see him in person to see if he gets my heart rate up.

I do know one big ranch north of San Angelo that they have been hunting for close to 30 years with a pretty strict management plan in place and have been keeping statistics/aging and such on all the deer they kill and doing helicopter surveys to determine what needs to be killed and the biggest surprise they got was on the deer's age when killed. they aged like most others by looking at the bottom jaw and comparing it to most of the charts/data out today. The surprise was when they started sending the teeth off to have them professionally aged and almost every buck/doe they aged the old fashion way was anywhere from 1 to 2 years and older than what they thought.

                            2 1/2 - 3 1/2. Probably 115-125. I think he's going to grow up if he gets a pass
