I did the same thing with my son, he waited and shot a nice deer a few years later, he is now 19, and very management minded, never regretted making him wait and learn about managing our resource.

      Agree with these guys.

I bet he had a great time in the woods with dad. Mission accomplished.

Sounds like a very successful hunt to me, keep at it!

I hunt some big deer every year....I have vendors that'll pay for trips to wherever I want to go. I could afford to put my girls on monsters anytime I want.....It shouldn't be that easy. They can work for it just like I have.
                Well said

I've felt the same way before...just learn from it. Let him hammer one next time. There will be a next time.

Unlike the majority, I'm not seeing how he wouldn't be earning it. Let him take a shot next time. Earn it together.

Things happen. Don't be too hard on yourself!

Well no regrets anymore! Had a blast again this evening. Son learned a lot and didn't even get a shot off. Buck stayed for 15 minutes and wouldnt stand broadside long enough. I could have smoked him. Lol... Fun times with this boy.

Jason that just awesome! My boys ain't kids anymore, but I have great memories of hunts with them when they were that age. Lots of those memories didn't involve shooting a deer.

Not killing the buck just means you get to spend more time hunting with your boy. That's definitely a win.

Enjoy! When you let the genie out of the bottle it's hard to get back in there! My boy was a killing machine when he was young. Now at 20 he is picky!

Thanks guys! I'm definitely enjoying it. Told the boy he isnt staying out the rest of the week due to school. Maybe Friday I will get him back out and see about sealing the deal. My turn to sit alone for my target buck!
