Ozonics? Does it really work?

I wanted to try but didn't want to shell out the cash. So I made my own for less than $75.00, including tree swivel mount and lithium ion battery. Sure it looks like crap, but it's simple and rugged. I carry it in with me hunting the SHNF every time, I believe it works. Here's a pic of my setup.

Yes, they work. Absolutely.

My ozonics was on top of the Krivoman blind I was hunting from when I killed the buck in my avatar. It walked within about five yards of the blind on its way to the corn. But that's just one example. I've had both deer and hogs directly downwind of me without a clue. It works.

Mine works. I've had deer right underneath me while in my tree stand. Have watched deer for long periods of time while at the feeder and they don't know I'm there. I also wash my clothes in the anti-scent soap. I bathe in scent remover and spray my boots before going into the filed. All this during bow season while I'm right up on them. I do use my ozonics while in the block stand 90 yards away during rifle season. Lets me keep my windows open on all sides for airflow in the warmer weeks.
Something is working. I won't tree stand hunt without one. I keep mine on low until I see some movement and then shift it into high mode when they are approaching. After doing some battery modifications, I can get high mode for 6 plus hours, so I may just leave it on high. I can hear it but if you get out or your tree stand and go down to the feeder, you can barely hear anything. Deer don't seem to mind the sound since its a consistent hum.
I won't buy another ozonics unit though. They are too pricey. You can make one for cheap like listed above. You can get the element that the 200 uses. fan is cheap. So, If I burn mine out and electronics go, I'll just do home brew in the future.
maybe jimmyjams can elaborate and take some pics of what's inside.Last edited by Delirious; 10-04-2017, 08:39 AM.

Here's my notes when I did my build last year, prices might be different since it was about 12 months ago. I'll try to get some shots of the guts soon.
Home Made Ozone Generator
1. Portable Ozone Generator 12V 200mg Ceramic DIY for Water Air Plate Cleaner Ebay $9.89
2. Silenx EFX-09-15 Effizio 92x25mm 15dBA 46CFM PC Computer Case Fan Ebay $12.98
3. MTM Survivor Dry Box with O-Ring Seal (Forest Green, Small) New Ebay $9.83
4. OKgear Computer Fan Grill (Fingerguard) - 92mm – Black Ebay $3.39
5. 12V 6800mAh Rechargeable Lithium-ion Li-po Battery Pack+AC Charger for Toy LED Ebay $20.99
6. Slate River EZAim Game Camera Mount Amazon $17.94
TOTAL $75.02
NOTES: Dimmer switch is not needed, I never use it because the fan is so quiet. I tried a 500mg ozone generator first, it was too much ozone, and made a high pitch sound, unlike the cheaper 200 mg ozone from china. The 200 mg is the same amount as ozonics, and has worked perfectly. The arm mount is poorly made at the swivel connection that attaches to the ozone maker, I've made it work but Id suggest trying to find a better arm.
Keep in mind I built mine in 30 minutes with a drill, kitchen knife, and screw driver, a bit rough around the edges. Hasn't failed once all of last season and two sits this year, over 30 sits, and lasts 4-5 hrs with a 6800 lithium battery. I bought a second battery for afternoon hunts so I don't need to wait for recharging. Weighs 1lb 13 oz and fits in my back pack.
Dimensions
1. Ozone Generator 70 x 32 x 45m
2. Fan 92 x 92 x 25mm
3. Battery 105 x 63 x 25mmLast edited by jimmyjams4110; 10-04-2017, 09:06 AM.

They are actually extremely effective when you're inside a hard blind and you place the ozonics on top of the blind. I place it on top of a rubber mouse pad to dampen vibration...

I was given a new one over the summer.
Tried it Sunday AM for the first time, from a tree stand. I could hear the first group of does laughing at my futile efforts to fool a deer's nose, as they repeatedly blew at me downwind.
Not saying it doesn't help, but I wouldn't change up my tactics of hunting the correct wind directions, just because I have ozonics in the tree w/ me.

There's no doubt they do work, regardless of the naysayers. Ozone kills odor. Do they work 100% of the time? Not in a hunting situation and not unless set up properly. The ozone must be in your scent stream to kill the odor. Light, variable wind swirling around trees can cause some of your odor to be missed by the ozone.
Testimonial- I've put this on here in the past. LE K9 Handler for the past 10 years, I train weekly with several other K9 units. A few years ago I put a pound of marijuana in a vehicle with an Ozonics. Left it there for about 2-3 hours. Think we had 7 certified narcotics dogs that night- every one of them should have alerted to this car. Not a single one did. This was in a controlled environment in which wind could have little to no effect on what was occurring inside the vehicle.
There is no doubt ozone kills odor, but environmental conditions can effect how well it works in the field.

^Yep. This is why they work extremely well in a popup blind but can miss some when in a tree stand. You can control where the airflow is in a popup blind by opening and closing windows. In a tree stand, it's not nearly as controllable. But if you set up the ozone generator above you on the downwind side of you so that the ozone falls across your scent, they can work very well even in a tree. Obviously, if the wind shifts and you don't move the unit to adjust for that, then the ozone will miss your scent trail. Or if you set it in the wrong spot to begin with, it will miss your scent. Placement is critical in a tree. I've had whitetail does directly downwind of me when I was in a tree stand with the ozone pumping, and the deer didn't spook or snort or react in any way. It really does work when the set up is right.
