We have had pics of this buck twice in the last month and he was the only buck that I could get past 3 yrs old so he immediatley became Eastons target for the season. After having a 10:00AM soccer game re-scheduled to 8:00 AM this morning Easton and I sat around and pouted all morning due to missing out on opening morning. After the soccer games ended at 1:00 we drove the short 1/2 mile to our lease and pulled the camera cards to find the "big 10" as Easton named him at our hilltop feeder morning and evening for the last two days. We made the decision to battle the heat and go ahead and hunt to see if he showed. After watching a few different does and young bucks Eastons eyes lit up and he repeated somewhere around 5-6 times "the big 10, it's the big 10". He made his way in to the feeder but faced us for 10-15 minutes and I could only smile as I sat there listening to Eastons heart thumping from 3' away from me. Finally the buck gave him the quartering away shot that we were waiting for and Easton put the arrow low in the shoulder and the buck hit the dirt and then bounded 2 jumps into the waterhole near the feeder and moved across it as if it wasn't there. I heard the brush crash after he exited the waterhole But because of how thick the brush is I couldnt tell if he was crashing or just busting through the brush on his exit. After waiting on my wife and youngest son Huntley to show up from the house (aprox 5 miles) we headed out to see what we could find. I knew he had gone through the waterhole so I went to the far side of the waterhole to find his exit route and there was blood immediately. I followed it to the brush (aprox 15 yards) and looked up to see the buck dead another 30 yards in front of us in a clearing on the other side of a wall of brush and vines. This is Eastons first bowkill and his biggest buck to date.
