    Computer question

    My laptop up and died

IT guy at work says hard drive is not spinning

Any way to retrieve the data off of it without spending a ton of money?

If the drive motor is truly shot, it's going to be tough. If it were me, and I thought I was going to lose the data anyway, I'd carefully tear into it, as dust free as possible, and see if it were something obvious. But that would be last ditch for sure.

Place it in a Ziplock bag, and put it in the freezer for an hour. Then connect it and power it back up before it warms up. I work on Datacenter level servers for a living, so this no wives tale. At a prior employer, we had a 15 year old server that could only boot after we froze the drives. Had to do it anytime it got powered off.

Get an external drive enclosure and after you freeze it, then plug the enclosure plug into another computer via usb. That way you don't have to spend too much time dropping into laptop.

Not exactly sure what you are talking about

But I have an external hard drive that will be plugged in and ready to go if I get the laptop to come on
