A PSA about posting your email address...

I see guys posting their email address in some of the threads so pics of classified items can be sent to them...don't do this.

My story: A few years ago, I was unemployed. I was offered a job by a company called Masimo selling medical equipment. Not the clothing company, it's spelt different. Anyways, they did a background check. They actually googled my email, found out what my screen name was, then retracted my job offer. Their president actually said I would have been a "rock star" for them, coulda hired me if it had been a DWI...but because I had made disparaging remarks about the current President, HR would not touch me. I about talked about guns over at Glocktalk...they didn't like that stuff either.

Did I say something racist? No. Did I talk about shooting someone? No.

I'm a deplorable, HR departments that are run by New York liberals don't wanna have anything to do with me.

Just a word of advice, PM your email...YMMV

In the end, glad I didn't go to work for them as they are huge Dim contributors. It all worked out, but it sucked.

Isn't that illegal? Profiling and discrimination? I'd bring it up, just to make then sweat a bit

It sounds to me that problems were avoided by them finding this information prior to hiring you. I certainly would not care to work for a company that puts politically correct liberals in management postions. Consider yourself lucky!

Same concept as your Facebook page. Companies are allowed to make a hiring decision based on your social media accounts and it is not illegal because they can easily state you do not fit and are not suited for their company.

Best advice...use multiple email addresses, but only one should be for professional business and should be a professional email address. Something as simple as first dot last name at gmail.com

Yep! That sort of thing is both good and bad...

What really scary is how many companies demand your social media account passwords as a condition of employment. One of our new guys at work said he interviewed dozens of places before he came to work with us and a significant amount demanded his Facebook password.... F that noise!

I don't even use Facebook but there is no way I'd work for a place that demanded that

You dodged a bullet by not being hired, those HR folks could never survive at my company. Walk into any office in our building and your liable to see rifles in the corner or someone doing a trigger job during lunch.

Screw em...... You didn't want to work there anyhow....

I also work for a huge company, but I'm pretty they keep me on so just I don't go work for the other side. .

Dang near every one of my bosses (and their bosses) are on my Facebook page, and I'm not shy at all about telling exactly what I think.

In this day and age, it's more important than ever to make yourself 'bulletproof' and invaluable to your company. At some point your skill set will exceed your alt-views.

You don't want to embarrass your company, but at some point the line has to be drawn between your personal and professional life....
