I've never done it this early but from what I have ready, rattling this time of year can show fighting over a food source and bring deer in. I rattled one in mid-October a few years ago.

I may hit it for just a small bit. depends on what I'm seeing and what I feel like doing.

How long do you rattle? And then how long do you take a break. I've never done it but would love to try in a few weeks when I finally break free from the Dfw mess and make it into the woods.

if it were me this weekend would be 100% about being quiet and the least disruptive to the environment as possible. Have an ATV or polaris unless it's been running all the time I'd drive my truck. Leave the least amount of scent in and be as quiet as possible.

I've shot a lot of big deer opening weekend but you've got to get in and out of your areas with the least amount of disruption. The last thing I'd want to do is blow my hunting blocks that i've worked all summer to get deer coming to or educate them that people are in the woods.

                  So no i wouldn't rattle, i wouldn't even take my horns/bag.

I usually rattle for about 2 minutes and then rest for about 3-5 minutes and start up again. That being said I don't usually start rattling until mid October.

I absolutely will be rattling horns and using a doe decoy tomorrow. The rut is on in my area and the bucks are already breaking off points.
