you sit there until your brain tells you to take this one
If you really want to shoot a doe but are worried about that shot messing up your chance at that prime time buck i can tell you that shooting that doe WILL NOT hurt an opportunity at a buck 30 min or an hour later.

Ill burn my first doe tag on the old nag that decides to stare at me and snort and blow and stomp for 5 minutes.

I don't like to shoot a doe at my feeder unless I've filled my trophy tag already. For some reason it messes up the bucks for a while. Well, at least the mature ones. But if I've determined I'm going to take a particular deer it will get the first broadside or slightly quartering away opportunity to thump it in the ribs with a sharp broadhead.

If I wouldn't pass it on the last day, I don't pass it on the first day (or any day for that matter). If I have a tag and it's a shooter, I shoot it.

Sounds like you mean early or late in the sit not the season? So if you go in knowing you want to fill a tag that night, I'd take a doe early in the sit. If you make a great shot she might lay up and be dead and you're good to hunt the rest of the evening. If in the off chance you make a bad shot, you have plenty of daylight left to track or wait.

I hear that! Been there done that. This looks like a good thread I'll give it a bump.

Just shoot the first mature deer that gives you a good shot opportunity.

I’m by no means a trophy hunter, I’m a meat hunter. However the lease I’m on doesn’t allow does being shot, first Buck that I see that’s within lease rules will get shot. Gotta put meat on the table no matter how big a rack is or if someone says “it could have been a good one.” Lots of guys won’t shoot a Deer because they fear what other people will say, I’ll shoot the first deer that will make me happy and get the blood flowing.
