    Army worms

    Hey all,

I had army worms move through my yard about 2-3 weeks ago and shredded my yard before I caught em. Fast forward last Thursday and I had my food plot broken up and ready. With rain in the forecast, I looked through the pasture and couldn't find any worms and the yard greened back up. I decided to go ahead and plant. Put quite a bit in it this year as I planted 5 AC of alfalfa with wheat/oats and nurse crop. It's all starting to sprout and I went down today and shredded the tank **** near the plot. When I got done, I looked Bk and had about 20 army worms on the shredder deck. So, I started to panic. I could find some in the spots I just shredded but none so far in the plot. I put quite a bit of money in the plot. Have made a few calls but best answer I got was not to spray until they were in the food plot. Everyone says there isn't a systemic spray with residual. Is this correct. Problem is I work 24/48 so I may be gone almost 2 days before I can Ck the plot. If they hit it like my yard, a day and a half and I'd be wiped out. Is there anything I can spray that would have residual to keep em out? I've killed with Sevin several times and they're easy to kill. I'd just like to be proactive if I can prevent em from starting. Thanks for any input.

Biologist here. Bifin is the best you can do. They have wiped out anything planted in September up North in Baylor and Knox county. Usually in wet years it is best to hold planting until October. I know it doesn't bode well for having beautiful green food plots to look at on opening weekend, but mother nature bites sometimes. Good Luck and Good Hunting.

They got my Japanese millet in Robertson county. Ate every last stalk of it before I could get up there to spray.
