Question about Walter Buck WMA in Junction.

I want to take my 8 year old on a hunt there, trying to get in on standby. We will probably have to use one of their box blinds.

Does any one know what the actual dimensions are? I am thinking the windows are 39” from the floor. The box is about 43” square I think… not sure.

I will probably make a raised floor and take it with me, so he can shoot… somewhat comfortably. It can be difficult for an adult to shoot from an awkward position. I know it will be heck for a kid.

    Thanx,

    David

I will take it, that is for sure. May not get to use it. Looking to keep all options open.

David, I don't think they're all identical, but here's the one Zach and I had last spring. It was two regular blinds next to each other, as you can see. Maybe you can judge height of window based on these pics. I think your estimate of 39" window height is pretty close. The 2nd pic is Zach sitting on the bench inside. The seat is a 2x12 going all the way across. Maybe a smaller kid could sit on his knees on that or even stand up on it. It's very stable.

          Shane,

that looks like blind(s) # 9. We have hunted out of 10 before. Those 2 blinds are different than the others I've been in.

How'd yall do last spring... any exotics? I put in for spring turkey. hadn't heard of the results yet.

I'll probably take a lot of stuff to improvise on the spot.

We were there in April on the spring turkey hunt - loaded w/slugs hoping for exotics. We had a few whitetail come into range. Had a white fallow coming. He got to about 200 yards (too far for a slug), and a whitetail buck went and ran him off. We saw an axis doe, but near another blind while driving to ours.

Had fun anyway, but no shots fired. I wanted to say that we hunted #8, but it may have been #9. Can't remember for sure.

Shane, Sam shot his first deer out of that blind Its down in area 2. Only thing i would suggest is to bring some camo burlap and staple gun to cover the window, and some seat cushion because the seats are boards. Try to get into area 2 down low if possible. Hunting is better in the draws especially if its dry.

The versions at Inks Lake are preety fair for both adult and child. I would suggest a shorter than average chair for the adult because you'll be hunched over to look out the windows.
