    Fixed Power Scopes??

Never really have had many fixed power scopes other that a 4x on a 22. I am looking at some 10x42, 12x42, 16x42, and 20x42 scopes from SWFA. Looking at punching some paper and hunting with it anywhere from 100yd out to whatever distance I can comfortably shoot with the set up. I was wondering how high of a magnification is to high for a fixed power scope? Thanks GS!!

I want one as well for ease, durability, etc. I was looking at lower magnification though.
20x42 would be great in good light, but my old eyes may have trouble with 2.1mm of dim light at dusk and the FOV at 100 yds would be a leaf. LOL. It has always baffled me that a really good varible scope is cheaper than a fixed of equal build.

My brother uses a 36x42 on his benchrest rifle and shoots out to 1000 yds. But its some crazy expensive brand from over seas.

I have used a straight 6x40 Leupold Gold Ring on my .22 mag for years. It does not work well at very close ranges but is good from 25 yards to 150-200 yards.

Most people in hunting situations would never need anything more than a 4x or 6x scope.

I have 2, 45 x 45 Leupolds with 1/8 minute Target Dots on my bench guns.

I'm a fan of fixed power scopes.

I put a Leupold FX-3 6x42 on my sons first deer rifle.
                          It has a 17' FOV @ 100 yards.

Insofar as a fixed power hunting scope, I wouldn't go above a 10x but that's just me.
                          Good luck with your decision.

I have several leupold FX x 6 and FX x 12 scopes and I like them better than my VX scopes. They seems to be cleaner and brighter than the variable stuff especially in low light.
