    Mechanics: Throttle Body

My wife's Infiniti G37 is having acceleration issues. According to the dealership, the throttle body needs to be repaired and is quoting us $1,000.00.

    Any tips/advice?

Could it actually only need cleaning?
Some dealerships are good at selling things that don't need replacing.

Do it yourself . Throttle body isn't that big of a deal to change , parts looks to be about 200 Or so . Besides you could look cool in front of your wife doing it yourself !!

Try sea foaming the intake via the vacuum hose, and see if that cleans it up and runs better. While you're at it, sea foam the crank case and gas tank as well. Won't hurt anything, and should clean out any buildup in the throttle body (as well as fuel system); 1/3 can in the intake, 1/3 can in crank case (pour directly into oil fill cap), and 1/3 can into gas tank. If you're not comfortable doing it, just YouTube for reference. The correct sequence is to do the intake first (with car running). Then turn off and put hose back on. Then pour other two parts into the respective places (crank case and gas tank). Let it sit for 15-30 minutes. Then start the car, rev it to 3-4K RPMS five or six times (you may get large amounts of white smoke from the tailpipe - this is completely normal as the buildup burns off). Then go drive the car hard for 10 minutes. Sounds complicated, but is really simple. And it could save you $1k.

I saw the video and could easily fix it myself. The issue is she's in Houston and has to make it home and the acceleration has stopped a few times while driving, causing her to pull over and restart the car.

Is it running rough or dying, if it's dying I think you have other issues.

                    Well that sucks.

What part of Houston is she in?

Maybe find a Repair shop with better prices.

They replaced the throttle body on my F150 at the dealership for 4 or 5 hundred. Can't remember exact number, but it was not more than that.

if I'm not mistaken, g37's have duel throttle bodies. ( left and right) They are electronic and may have to be programed to the car.
