Rosetta stone still the easiest way? I spend 6+hours a day in my truck for work, might as well make it productive. Anyone have a Spanish copy they want to get rid of?
I took 3 years in high school and played around with a pirated copy of Rosetta stone a few years ago. Rosetta stone is a really good program if you have the time to invest in it. After talking to several folks I work with who English is a second language, they all highly recommended Rosetta stone also. I would own a copy if I had the time to invest and it wasn't so danged expensive! If you are serious and have the time/money to invest, I'd say go for it. I am in no way fluent or even close, but If I was in a bind, I could at least communicate the basics and have had to on several occasions even if it was as simple as "donde esta el bano!" (really important in a time of need!)
I've been trying to learn my "Wife's" secret language for years. Have yet to understand if what I thought I heard her say is what she actually meant or did it mean just the opposite of what she said.
Like you, I used to spend lots of time in my truck and now realize I should have been learning Spanish. I learned enough German to do just fine while in the Army, and last summer we went back for a vacation trip. Amazingly enough, even though it had been 25+ years I was still able to communicate effectively.
Some folks' ability to learn a new language amaze me---we have friends here now who live overseas. Dad speaks Spanish fluently (grew up in South America) and Russian as well due to where they now live. Another friend is a native Spanish speaker, but also speaks French and Hebrew, as well as English.
