Question for electrician or maybe DIYers

I need a timer switch like people use for tennis court lights or jacuzzis. This will be for my submerged well pump that feeds a 1500 gallon tank. I know the usual way is to put a float in the tank to turn off the pump when full. For now I'd prefer a simple timer switch.

Will any switch work like this one or do pumps draw more amps? I'm not sure what to buy. http://www.lowes.com/pd/Utilitech-15...Timer/50063925

I'd like to have a simple one like in the above link but that goes to 2 hours. Any suggestions?

That is a 15 amp timer. Should work on most pumps, as long as they don't exceed 15 amps and voltage is 120.

Hard to say for sure knowing nothing about your pump.

If it's a larger pump motor you can always use a contact relay on a timer. So you don't exceed any amp ratings

It's a smaller pump (pretty sure). Right now I just have an outlet to plug it into.

Where could I buy or look at a contact relay timer? I'll try Amazon but not sure what I'm looking for.

Good for 1/2 hp. 2 protected plug ins. Cheaper than building a timer set up with contact relay

              My pump runs off 220v

Any ideas for timers that are 2 hours or longer? I really want a very simple turn knob and it goes down to off so it's fool proof.

I would have a 110 circuit with a momentary start switch wired to a timer relay that then powers a contactor for that 220 load

Your only load on the relay would be the coil on the contactor

Look at an Intermatic T104 timer. This isn't exactly what you are looking for but it will work for your pump and can be set to run for as long as you want.

I think you could use a 240v water heater timer.

You could get you a digital timer (or dial type like you mentioned) and a contactor and do it that way. Use the timer to turn on the contactor and the contactor turns on the pump.
