    compressor for plasma

I have a Hypertherm Powermax 30 and the book says it needs 4cfm @ 90 psi, so what size compressor would you recommend. My Porter Cable pancake isn't doing the job. I will not be running other tools at the same time. Just a hobby mostly.
    thanks for any info.

    I can't answer your question.

We have 2 big commercial air compressors running 165 psi @ ?cfm
I work in a 16 bay trailer shop. We used to have water (condensation) I'm our airlines. It effected the quality of the cuts.

Check Harbor Freight, I was looking at a 21 gallon compressor that was making around 5 cfm @90 psi. $179.00 I believe.

Thanks, I'll check it out. I found some vids that may help me decide. I just hate to spend another pile of money. I'm in too deep now for as much as I use it.

Thats a really good plasma. You need to make sure you have a good water filter on or very close to your hypertherm. I put a motor guard on mine, it has a filter element that looks like a roll of toilet paper. The good filters take care of your consumables.

X2 in the water separator. That's a must. As far as a compressor. We ran a hypermax 800 and then 1200 on our CNC and had a large industrial compressor. I do t know what the size was, tank was probably a 100 gallon. But it would have issues keeping up if we cut a sheet of long slow thick cuts without getting a chance to catch up between cuts.
