    Water Softener... Educate me...

Ok... So I'm in search of a new water softener... our's is on the way out... Our water is pretty hard here in Parker County, but I know jack about softeners...

Basics... 3 bathrooms... 1 wife, 3 kids (2 of which are girls and growing like weeds) and tons of laundry due all 3 kids playing sports...

    Any suggestions? Really any???

Brands to stay away from or brands that you recommend? Resin in tank or separate from the tank?

    Thanks in advance

Buy something with a fleck head and manage it yourself. $500/$600 should buy what you need.

I am in Parker county also. I put in the Aquasana well Rhino over a year ago. It's been great so far and it's salt free.

I've "heard" the ones at the big box stores tend to wear out fast..

We have a Kenmore 300 series right now... was installed in 2010... doesn't seem like a well made product. There's salt build up on the drain port, it isn't using any salt at this time... Had a plumber out today that tested the water and we're at 18 ppm which is really high from what I can tell from the interwebs...

Don't really want to drop 4k-5k on one of the really nice systems, but don't want to buy junk that I'll have to replace next year either... just not sure what route to take.

Look up water right softners, put one in back in February, easy to use, easy to install, made a huge difference

I was told by several different water treatment companies that Fleck was the best. I put my own in and had no problems with installation and it has been great these last several years.

Well, I have had two different ones from big box stores in the last 25yrs or so, so I would say mine lasted pretty well. No way I would pay big $$$ to a water softener company. I currently have a GE from HD, and it has worked flawlessly for years!

This is what I have been using since 2004, I have not touched it except to add salt. Here is a question, is your housed plumbed to have your outside hoses or sprinkler go through softener? When you run a sprinkler system you will K.O. a softener quick. I am in Parker county also hard water and all! if the above applies tell the distributor this, he will set you up right

Will cost you $$$ but the non-electric water softeners are the best. You get what you pay for. Great investment if you plan to live in your home for a while.
