    Guarding a Barrel

With our season about to start, what percent of your hunting time will you be guarding a barrel? I know it depends on what part of the state you hunt, here in East Texas my time will be less than 20% Good Luck this year

99.447%. The rest of the time will be spent on progress and egress to/from said barrel.

Close to my plan as well.
We're putting in a food plot. Not sure if I'll hunt that or not

I'll start out that way for sure. This is still a relately new lease to us as we got on right at the beginning of season last year and didn't get much time to scout. This year's been so crazy with work for us that we still haven't gotten much time. I did move my primary hunting spot to another location this year. So far just seeing young bucks and does at that spot. But, I still expect to see some nice bucks there. Of course, as I see more and learn more, I'll adjust accordingly. That usually ends up with me hand corning an area or sitting along a trail that I've located. The truth is that I really don't know a percentage number. But, if I had to guess, I'd say 75% of the time. Though I have alot more fun when getting outside that box.

I spend my time hunting trails to and from food plots and hand corn spots. I have never hunted deer over a feeder. I hunt hogs over my feeder though.

I will add that I live where I hunt and I hand corn while driving my tractor. The deer completely ignore me while I'm on the tractor. The bucks are a little skittish but not the does.

The big boys never go there, even at night.

Whole time. That's where the deer go so I'll go there too

By the looks of the acorn crop, not much if any.
But I know where they travel.

I don't even have a barrel feeder on my lease. I have 1 free choice protein trough in a feed pen but the rest of my spots are all hand corn.

This is TBH and I'm proud to be a TBH'er.

But seriously, I have places to hunt a barrel and I have places where the bigger deer won't come near one. So my egotistical side is really ashamed of my other side that hunts a barrel.

Shame on my egotistical side. If you know what I mean.

I expect less than 50% but, I do have a feeder by a newly planted food plot for rifle season, if needed.

                            Probably 50%

My feeders are in areas that deer travel but they don't necessarily stop at them

But a pig will sure stop by and if nothing else is happening I will shoot them

My bow hunting will be done over or very near a feeder. The majority of my rifle hunts will be outside of a stand, on one of a few high spots overlooking several frequent travel areas. I've seen way more deer, and way bigger deer, in way more areas by sitting up on top of a hill and watching than I ever did sitting in a plywood box.
