    RUT in in full swing!!!!!

I always wanted to be "the guy" to make the announcement that it's full on rut

I just watched a buck chase a die all over this hay meadow in front of my tractor.... So I will be the first to say, start rattling and pouring tinks out. It's full on rut in east Texas !!!

Then there will likely be a few guys out hunting tonight. We have a good moon to hunt by and an actively rutting herd with a light north breeze...should be a couple of nights to hunt...

Woo Hoo! I'll swing by tonight around 10 and pick you up for an evening hunt. Be sure to put new batteries in the spotlight. Since you spotted 'em you get first shot.

You did say East Texas right?

On edit I see Slick 8 beat me to it. Crap.

Pre-rut has been on here on the coast for a couple weeks. Actual breeding started in the last week.

Dang amateur, you can't use a spot light these days and don't need it on a moonlit night. It just lets everyone else know where the big deer are...

All you need is night vision and cruise the hay fields.

Maybe someone can school me on the rut...I hunt in MS and our deer don't hit the pre-rut/rut into Mid to Late Dec and on into Jan. Why are you seeing rutting action so early in TX? The muley's don't rut out here in NM until Jan as well.

I have been watching the young bucks chase does for the past few days. I believe once they rub their velvet they get a surge of testosterone that gets the frisky.

I was always told it had to do with length of days. Of course some say back home it is the temps but I can tell you I've never seen a hard horned buck chasing anything until much later in the season than this.
