    Hog damage in a pasture

What is the best way to get a pasture back in flat, smooth condition after hogs have rooted it all up? I was thinking a heavy disk and then drag it smooth. Thoughts?

Yes but enjoy that ride on a tractor haha. We had this happen to 10 acres over and over. It was a disaster doing it. They will come back right in I bet and do it again

We finally put up hot wire around our hay field and it works and has kept them out.

That is how I do my pasture disc and then I pull a 12' harrow over it to smooth.

That is what we have always done. Problem we always had was not pigs......it was fire ants and crawfish.

Make sure you warn people, because you will stick almost anything when it rains until the ground resettles.

First have a lot of TBHers come eliminate the hogs, then fix pasture

I was going to say disc and box blade. I'd get rid of the hogs first.

I always have about 2 acres at any given time torn up. Im about to get a dozer in to fix some of the ruts down by the tank. Im 6ft 4 and can get in some of these ruts up to my knees. Your disc is only good if they are shallow, if they are more than 8 to 10 inches deep you aren't gonna be doing anything but practicing for the rodeo and hauling a disc through open sky. Good luck!

Once hogs create a scent trail to a food source. You will have to annually til that area. They are relentless. Even if you shoot an entire sounder. Give it time and another group will show up. We've disked and tilled around the same trees every year 2x a year. Yes its a bumpy ride.

They really like it after you plow it up for them. Electric fence works pretty good. We use them around rice fields. Need at least two strands.

I'm going to subscribe to this thread because I have a 20 acre hay patch they destroyed every January. I have used a disc, drag made from cattel panels and RR cross ties, a grader blade, and a box blade. All have worked good on some types of rooting holes and not so good on others. I like the box blade and grader blade because I can pull the mounds back into the holes.

I have a pretty good hot wire up right now to keep my bull off the fence next to my neighbor's cows that I can tie into, just run it low.

For running the hot wire, what heights do you all recommend?
