Good luck finding a good machinist! There are still plenty of them out of work. I'm glad your work is picking up. When I was running a machine shop in Porter, I would have to hire at least 10-12 guys before I found one keeper. It's definitely a trade not everyone is cut out for. At our shop, we wanted all of our machinists to be able to do their own programming, editing, setups, etc and be able to run both our manual and cnc lathes and mills. The hardest traits to find were good work ethic and dependability. If they were semi-intelligent I could teach them the rest. Before I left last December we were getting calls daily from machinists looking for work. Hope you find someone with the skillset you're looking for. It sounds like you make some big stuff. We didn't turn anything over 9" diameter with max length at about 16".
