    First Time Diesel Owner

Finally got me a 6.7L Powerstroke F250. Been wanting one for a while but price was always the issue until I found a deal I couldn't pass up.

Anything I need to know right off the bat being a first time diesel or Superduty owner?

Enjoy the power. I run Duramax and love them.

Prepare for any repairs to be more $$$$ than a gas. A buddy bought a 2008 F250 6.4L for I think 28K with 48k miles on it. It now has 60k miles and has had a cracked head gasket since he bought it, not to mention the DEF went out 500 miles after he bought it. $6,000 for the gasket, new studs and heads since the stock ones are known for issues he wanted to replace the studs. He's 10K into the truck for repairs and a few mods and he hasn't had it a year.

Its a 2015 with 24K miles on it and still under warranty so I am hoping no issues. I guess I will need to get a good size tool box and keep some DEF on me at all times.

Regular oil change is significantly more $, along with fuel filters, etc...but the truck will make it a point to remind you EVERY time you start it if your fuel filters are old, or oil change needs done, so don't worry, you will never miss one!

Use an additive in your fuel. I use

You still got time to buy the extended warranty from Ford on this truck. My extended warranty has more than paid for it self. Go online and get quotes from different dealers for the best price. Mine was $2100.00. Diesels are not cheap to repair. Enjoy your new truck, you will love the power.

As others have said keep your fuel filters clean. I am also a big fan of the external coolant and oil filters.

I look forward to the day I can get back into a Ford diesel but I want to go back to 1986 and pick up a 6.9 IDI.

Enjoy it and don't be afraid to put your foot into it!

Can't believe you bought one of those POS 6.7's. You are gonna be in a world of hurt!!! I joke of course, looks to be the best motor ford has put out in a while. Switched from a 7.3 to an f150 with 6.2 and miss the room in the bigger diesel.

I'm not much help because I don't have one but I have heard do not get DEF fluid in your deisel tank! I've never noticed where all the manufacturers put the DEF cap but I saw a newer ford with it right next to the deisel cap. Can see how someone might not pay attention and get them mixed up

His silly fault for buying a F250 6.4 diesel. That truck was known for issues and anytime you buy a diesel with that low amount of miles tells you it has issues. So far in having my Diesel the only cost issue I see different is DEF purchase, and maybe filter costs. Folks say your oil change costs more well I don't get them as often as a gasser either. Down the line injectors will costs but thats 100k miles or better.
