    They Are Everywhere

Out working feeders today and as I walked by the feed pen noticed this dark mass up in a mesquite tree. Paper wasp nest about 2/3rds the size of a soccer ball, but high enough that they weren't a bother.

Was working at one of the other feed pens, crossing into the pen and got a foot tangled between and twisted up in two strands. Ended up doing a full face-plant before I even realized I was tangled up. No injury, so guess my 70-y.o. bones are still strong. Was changing out the mechanism and before I got through I figured out it was a bad battery and not a bad mechanism. Oh well, needed to build a larger coon cage anyway, and got that done.

That's a heck of a disco ball up there. I'd be tempted to shoot it down and run like hell.

I was pulling the old carpet out of my blind last weekend and the chair was coming with. Didn't realize the wasp nest under the chair until they were in my face as I was standing on the ladder. Got popped twice before my feet hit the ground. Came back with some spray and found another nest about the size of my palm under the shelf where my frosty beverage usually sits. I normally don't worry about them but my hand swelled up like a balloon. I usually have a can of spray in my hand this time of the year but it slipped my mind and I paid for it.

I would think with your last run with wasps you would just steer clear and carry on

Right-- Truck is about 100 yds away and I'm not running through the thigh-high grass, pear patches and mesquite. I'll just bring a can of wasp spray next trip when I take the new battery to the other site. Since they were nice enough not to be a bother maybe I'll just leave 'em be.
