Yes there was scat that's how he knows it's not a cow.....

Have him taste the scat. Should be a distinct difference between hog and just about anything else in the woods

If his first guess was a horse. Thats your first clue that he really doesn't know what a cow track looks like.
You should just go along with it and tell him that once a hog hits 500lbs they become man eaters and he should be very careful going to his stand early in the mornings.
