    duck hunting advice needed

I miss duck hunting. I want to go locally (Round Rock) but I don't feel right about going without being able to retrieve ducks in deep water. I've thought about using a fishing pole and lure but that only reaches so far. I have a yellow kayak but that's a lot to carry/drag if/when I were to walk in.

Growing up in Ca. we didn't have a dog but our blind was a floating blind and we would just use the boat to go get the birds.

apparently there are some spots on the colorado that you can hunt that don't require any type of special retrieval tools..

Find ways to use the kayak as an asset rather than a liability. I used to kayak to spots, then use burlap and local vegetation to camo in my kayak and use it like a layout blind. It is bright yellow as well. It's really easy to quickly launch, retrieve your bird, then get back into position. The photos below show my brother and me using this tactic near Port Arthur a few years ago.

This one was with my dog and a canoe, but we could have easily retrieved our own birds. However, we never would have gotten to this spot without the canoe.

Sorry to post multiple times but I can only add one photo per post with my phone for some reason.
