    nacogdoches rut

    Hi,

I'll be hunting this year for the first time in Nacogdoches. Trying to get my first deer with my bow and will like to know when is usually the rut over there?. TPWD document put it around November 12, just want to confirm..

Halloween thru Thanksgiving. My experience has been that you see more bucks early (around Halloween) because they are cruising more looking for the first doe in heat. Weather in east Texas plays a big part in buck sightings (moon phase, hot or cold, etc)

Im in Huntington with is about 40 minutes away and ours is usually the first week of November. I usually plan on hunting hard that week plus the last week of October. My BIL and his dad take most of the first week of gun season off to hunt, which would be close to what tpwd have.

When I was at SFA the rut started every night right when the bars closed so just FYI, probably 1am.

huntfishjournal.com has a rut calculator that i hear is very accurate (by them of course) but they seem to be great guys. East Texas bowhunting is difficult. I got my first ever bow kill last year after hunting hard for 4 years. Best of luck. Half the battle is knowing where to find them!

Taco Bell was a good funnel/ambush point.

You better be in the stand the week surrounding November 10th in western Nacogdoches county. However, my last two years kills were on 11/23 and 11/24.

My TC start picking up the older class of bucks out in the open mid-late Oct and then it cuts back significantly as they lock down with does.

                            Taco Bell was always post-rut.
