So I ordered a Boyds Prairie Hunter stock for my Savage 111 Trophy Hunter XP. I got the stock in and then saw what parts I would need since the cheap stock the gun came with was molded for all removable parts. I looked through the schematics for the detachable box magazine bottom bolt release models and it looks like frame assembly is what I need along with a metal trigger guard to replace the cheap janky one it came with. I called savage to order the 2 parts and the people from savage said I needed the metal mag bottom for the mag to align correctly with the metal frame assembly. So has anyone here on the green screen installed a Boyds stock on a savage 111 trophy hunter? Does that sound about right as far as parts I need?

Boyds Stock Install Savage 111

I assume that these are the same as Savage Model 10 trigger guards. However, I cannot locate a metal one in black finish. Everywhere I looked is out-of-stock. The $12 ones shown on Boyds' site just say "black" and do not say if they are metal or the junk plastic ones.
In this third installment of our Savage Axis Build series we will be focusing on the barrel and the stock. As often happens, due to availability and other factors my build was forced to deviate some from my original plan. This change unfortunately forced me to increase the budget for the project accordingly, but in the long run I think the change will prove to be for the better. If you haven't already, be sure to catch up on the rest of this series by reading these previous installments: - Savage Axis Build: Introduction (http://www.savageshooters.com/content.php?196-Savage-Axis-Build-Introduction) - Savage Axis Built: Action & Trigger (http://www.savageshooters.com/content.php?197-Savage-Axis-Build-Action-Trigger) My original plan for this build was to acquire a factory 7mm-08 Remington take-off sporter barrel and have it rechambered to .284 Winchester. With sporter take-off barrels typically selling for $75 or less this would save me a significant amount over buying an aftermarket
Hope this helps

There is tons of good info if you dig deep enough.
I did not have any coffee this morning when I posted or I might have caught the difference of 11 trophy hunter vs axis.
