Got up at 3:20. 23 mile drive north to watrous. We are hunting the southern border if FT. UNION. Bad winds have messed up 2 morning hunts in which we tried to ambush them coming from the alfalfa fields below towards their bedding areas on ft union and wind River Wildlife Reserve.
Mixing it up this morning and moving to the south side of the ranch near a tank and steep draw where at least one bachelor group has been traveling from the fields.
Problems thus far: no bulging, cow herding, daylight activity. They eat until daylight and go to bed up high and off the property. We have a 2 mile walk this morning to get set up for about a 15 minute Hunt.
Not what we wanted to do but our options are limited. These lower elevation elk seem to be a little behind the rest of the state in kicking off the pre rut activities.
We will be scouting/Hunting a different Ranch just west of this one in the afternoon.
My back is sore and my left heel is not well. But I will give it hell through Saturday.
Caddenhead is a pleasure to hunt with. We really haven't seen each other in about 6 plus years when we are on a lease together. But he is a solid Hunter and all around great guy.
