    Another LEO down

    Well per capita this state has very little respect for Law. Prayers for the community of Alamogordo.

    NEWS RELEASE

    September 2, 2016

    On September 2, 2016, two uniformed patrol officers from the Alamogordo Police Department were conducting routine patrol in the 600 block of S. Florida Avenue. The officers encountered a male subject, later identified as 38 year old Joseph Moreno. Officers made contact with Mr. Moreno, a foot pursuit resulted from this contact. At some point during the foot pursuit shots were fired. The suspect, Joseph Moreno was pronounced dead at the scene. Joseph Moreno had 3 active warrants for his arrest.

    During the incident Officer Clint Corvinus, 33 years of age was struck by gunfire. Officer Corvinus was transported to GCRMC (Gerald Champion Regional Medical Center) where he succumbed to his injuries. Officer Corvinus was pronounced deceased at 0918 a.m., September 2, 2016.

    Officer Corvinus was a 4 ½ year veteran of the Alamogordo Police Department and was a Field Training Officer at the time of the incident. Officer Corvinus was a graduate of Academy del Sol High School. Officer Corvinus graduated from the New Mexico Police Academy in June of 2013. He is survived by his parents, an 8 year old daughter, and a girlfriend. We would ask that you be respectful of the family’s privacy at this time.

    The high presence of tactical teams, to include police helicopters were requested following direct threats made to law enforcement by known associates of the suspect. There are no known additional suspects at this time.

    Citizens of Alamogordo and Otero County will not see a lapse in police services. Local surrounding agencies will be taking calls for service while the Alamogordo Police Department and community grieve the loss of a police officer. Joseph Moreno has a lengthy criminal history to include the following:

    •Felon in Possession of a Deadly Weapon
    •Aggravated Residential Burglary
    •Escape from Custody
    •Numerous probation violations

    The officer involved shooting incident is being investigated by the New Mexico State Police.

    Any and all details regarding that investigation can be forwarded to Sergeant Elizabeth Armijo with the New Mexico State Police.

                            Lost an officer in Hatch just a few weeks ago also.
