How many of you store ammo in the garage?

My new place doesn't have a good indoor storage option for ammo. I can lock it in file cabinets in the garage that are bolted down, but it will still be exposed to temp extremes and humidity. I can get desiccant packs, baking soda, or a golden rod, but bc the cabinets aren't air tight this may not do much good. I did just finish insulating 3 walls and the ceiling so that may help.

How many of y'all store ammo in the garage?

...only shotgun shells but they are short lived.

I just ordered a ductless AC & insulated garage door...will have a climate controlled garage soon. Once this happens, all the ammo and reloading components / set up will be set. Should have done this a long time ago.

I've got a bunch in an outside storage closet attached to my house. No desiccant or nothing and the hot water heater is in the same closet. No problems so far. Been stored there since January. I'ts all shotgun ammo. No rimfire or other centerfire stuff.

Put all the ammo in one of those bags you can suck the air out of.... throw in some desiccant first and you ought to be good to go. The humidity in the air wont be all gone but it wont go up because you have the bag in a humid place.

I wouldn't just store it without some sort of protection from moisture. I had some shotgun shells I left in my garage and they went to crap and really tarnished the brass.

That's not a bad idea. What AC did you pick?

I used to keep everything in the garage. Primers, powder, shot, bullets, cases, hulls, loaded ammo both shotgun and rifle, all of it. Now I've got all my primers and powders in the house in a spare room. Still, loaded shotgun ammo is in the storage room. I've had some in my garage for literally years and never had an issue.

I keep all mine the garage. It is my only choice. I save all the desiccant packs that come in new shoes and other products and throw them in my ammo cans. It seems to work and at least makes me feel better.
