What are your thoughts on placing blinds/stands near your feed pens? Some think you should never kill while in the feed pen because the deer will "get smart" and not come back. Others say the deer are too spooky near the feeders, so more difficult to draw back. We have had success hand corning 50-100 yds from the feeder to where our stands are placed.

We have feeders that we hunt at approx 35-60 yrds away then we have a centrally located protein feeder we do not hunt near. Older bucks get smart and avoid the feeders once pasture traffic and shooting begins until rut then they check them out but don't usually feed, they just pass by.
We don't do a lot of shooting (guns or bows) on our ranch and we tend to walk in and out depending on conditions/which kid goes etc.
It is interesting to see blinds setup on the pens like the one posted, I like when my neighbors hunt this way.then they complain that they aren't seeing deer.

Not saying deer don't get smart, but I think sometimes we give them too much credit!

I have killed deer in the morning and the afternoon on the same day several times
I made a bad shot on a buck a few years ago that was directly under the feeder. Later that year I killed that same buck under the same feeder

Hunting in Uvalde 4 years ago, i shot a cayote and let loose 3 more rounds at the rest of the pack as they ran off. 5 minutes later, i shot a doe stading over the yote looking at it. Not 10 minutes later, i had several bucks in the field with the dead doe and yote. You never really know whats going to happen. The buck in my avatar was one of them
