I started buying my Iowa points last year so I can hunt there in a couple of years but I have no experience with western big game. I have done some reading online and it gets confusing. My question for you guys with experience is what are the best areas to invest points in Elk and Mule Deer in particular? I would like to start accumulating points so I will be able to make western trips in the future years. I tried searching on here and couldn't find much either.

Best Places to Have Preference Points?

Utah is cheap and easy. More of a long term state
WY Deer is a good place cause you can always blow your points on a Region G or H tag. If you put in for Elk, don't bother buying a point
CO Deer is nice because the best Archery units in the state only take 4-7 points. Elk probably isn't worth the long wait for a decent unit
ND/SD are very cheap for Mulie points and although they don't have the bruisers that alot of Western states have, it would be a fun hunt in beautiful country
After that comes AZ and NV.. Not really worth applying anywhere else IMO
If you want PM me and I'll give you my #.. Good luck!
*FYI, it's not too late to buy points only in WYLast edited by Deers & Beers; 08-31-2016, 12:33 PM.
