Father wants to Bow Hunt - Draw Weight?

My father (78) wants to bow hunt for the first time in his life. We bought him a Texas non-resident hunting license for gun season. He could not pull back my bow set at 60 lbs last year. What would be the minimum draw weight would you recommend? He says he has been working out this year.

    I forgot - shots won't be over 30 yds

Don't fret the pounds so much. My wife has killed plenty of animals at between 40# & 50#.

      Yeah #45-50 should do it.

Be responsible with shot choices and I would say 40 lbs especially if you stay around 20 yards with a good cut on contact broadhead. Deer and hogs are killed every year with less poundage than that but I would be more comfortable at 40lbs I think

My daughter killed her 1st deer with 28# at 10 yds and got full penetration till the BH came out the other side. So given that, 40# will be plenty BUT since he's never bow hunted before it's incumbent on you to set him up for success. Tell him not to shoot over 20yds. Think about how small a tennis ball looked to hit at 30yds when you started, now think about that on something moving and breathing and you're packed with adrenaline.
I've shot a couple animals and I try very hard not to shoot past 20 on deer, too much can go wrong
