    coworker fell saturday from stand

good friend of mine fell saturday while hanging a stand and broke 3 ribs and his left shoulder. he was hanging an old loc on type stand, wearing an older harness, and the platform cables gave out and he fell straight down. think the harness slowed him down before it broke, probably slammed him into the tree. he landed on his shoulder, breaking it. he was about 20ft up and weighs about 275( hes 6'5"), big dude. luckily there was another hunter at the lease at the time and my buddy wasnt unconscious so he was able to call for help and they were able to meet the ambulance at the county rd. coulda been alot worse, thankful i get to give him a hard time still and am not saying good bye. be careful and inspect everything! this was also the topic of our shop safety meeting this morning.

Broken ribs and shoulder is really bad, but at least he's still breathing. Glad it wasn't worse

Harnesses do have an expiration date.

Glad it didn't end up worse. Good reminder to replace your harness every few years.

Harness definetly slowed him down and I can speak from experience. May 6th I fell from a Ladder @ 5 ft up and broke my shoulder + ribs 2-8.

Takes @ 3-4 months to feel normal and I'm just now getting some strength back.

Hope you didn't damage anything like the rotater cuff ...

I always try and have someone with me when hanging stands for this very reason.

Sorry to hear about your friend. I have a buddy who's 6'5 and weighs north of 300lbs. He HATES heights. I've seen him fall during a bike ride and it wasn't pretty. Lots of energy released when big fellas hit the ground.

I'm tethered to the tree at all times with a good rope and a good harness. It's just not worth taking chances. I've actually shot a rope over a limb before climbing.
