    Dove Hunt on Public Land

I dont have a place to hunt doves this season and I am considering purchasing the permit to hunt on public land. Does anyone have any feedback on public dove hunts? especially the area west of Bryan off of Hwy 21?

Ive never hunted public land and Im not sure what to expect. Anyone else plan to hunt this area interested in a meet up?

I don't have any info up around that area, but I go down to Pearsall/Dilley area on public land and limit out every year. Some Public land spots aren't worth the paper they are printed on, you just have to scout.

I have no info on the TPWD lands but you should also check into Corp lands. Around Stillhouse lake you can dove hunt the corp land

I have hunted the public land near New Braunfels years back and it was never very good at all. First few days where OK the real bad after that. It was nice to get away and in a field but never got more than a few birds each trip out.

When I lived in San Antonio for a year I used to go to a public area off Engel (?) road. It was never crazy-good hunting, but I always scratched out a few and had the occasional good day.

I'll be out on public land around Greenville. I'll get there around 5 to hopefully beat the city crowds that come this way every year. Some guys sleep there over night but I like my bed.

From what I've seen.. you can "Expect" to not find a open hole.. be treated by 'professional public land hunters' that think spots are "theirs"... and be ran up on during your hunts multiple times by other public land hunters...some of them the aforementioned 'professionals"..

Edit.. I ****ed up and read "dove" as duck...
but I guess the same might apply...dunno.. never public land hunted for dove

I went up there the last few years. I never had much luck, but I wouldn't usually go the first few days. I'd go during the week and have the unit to myself.

Man I'm in College Station and looking to do the same. I have a great place to hammer the doves on the weekends but have to drive 3 hours for it. Was looking into this for a midweek/get off work early place to go

Going to give it a shot this year...In DFW area. Hoping for some action. I'm off Sundays and Mondays so thinking Monday may be a good choice and less crowded. If anyone in the area wants to go with let me know. Not sure if I can get pm yet, still new.

I've limited out at a south zone place down around Stockdale years ago. It was literally a shot in the dark. I'd never seen the place, found it in the dark, walked out into the middle of a field and limited out by 9:00. Other places around Austin I've gone were so crowded that it was dangerous.
