Getting the funk smell out of a refrigerator

We had a breaker trip at the lease and our outside fridge was out of power for a couple weeks. I'm sure you can imagine the smell of rotten hamburger meat and a big package of liver alone, much less all the other stuff that was in it. We cleaned it out and scrubbed it with bleach cleaner and now have it running with an opened bag of charcoal in the freezer and fridge parts.
    Any other suggestions??
    Thanks.

We had some fruit @ the station that fermented. It was an awful, awful chemical smell. Ruined all the food in the fridge AND the freezer! Even permeated eggs thru their shells. It was bad. Boxes of baking soda & 1 week & it was GTG.

Thanks. We didn't have any baking soda there, but we are going back next weekend and will defiantly put some in there then.

Baking soda, bleach, leave open. Clean the rubber seals very well too.

Ammonia does a really good job of 'scrubbing the air'. Not sure on the specifics of using it in a fridge, though.

+1 for cleaning the rubber seals, lots of odor causing bacteria likes to hide out in there. Get a little baking soda and an old toothbrush and have at it. Best of luck to the OP

I had a freezer get unplugged. For a few weeks. Everything liquified. It was nasty.

              Scent-a-way spray.

Clean with bleach and then put a box of baking soda.

You can get 13# of baking soda at SAMs for less than $10. Baking soda, charcoal and time will take care of it.

Wipe down with Clorox wipes with bleach. Then just open the box of baking soda and leave in the fridge and freezer

I've never had luck getting that rotten meat smell out of any that I've had that happen too. Since the blood runs and gets everywhere it's impossible to get it all.

Most was vacuum sealed thank goodness, but it was still pretty funky.

Thanks guys, hopefully next week we can get it back to smelling normal.

Throw it away and get a new one.

Charcoal and baking soda will absorb the odor.
